Upholstery Cleaning   The upholstery cleaning process is very similar to carpet cleaning. It just doesn’t take the amount of horsepower that it takes to clean carpet, and it’s a bit more of a delicate and tedious process. A specialized tool designed specifically for upholstery cleaning is used. The shape of this hand wand allows it to easily get into the tiny cracks and crevices. It allows a delicate but thorough cleaning around buttons and the edges of cushions and pillows. Once the upholstery has been cleaned, if it doesn’t have that original spark, a color brightener can be applied. This is similar to waxing a car after it has been washed. It can really make it shine. A protective coating can be applied after it has been steam cleaned to help maintain the quality of the fabric’s color. It will also help the furniture to come visibly clean when it is steam cleaned the next time. It works the same way it does for carpet. Upholstery can be cleaned with most commercial grade portable steam cleaning equipment. There is much less surface area on the fabric of most furniture than on the fiber of most carpets, and it takes much less water to do the job. People usually don’t walk on their furniture, and there is usually much more cushion to absorb the shock and prevent further penetration into the fabric. Hot water is not usually a problem because many fabrics contain natural fibers that are susceptible to shrinkage if the water is too hot.
