Thermo hygrometer   It is very important for the restoration team to be able to measure the amount of water vapor present in the air inside and outside the home or building. This can be easily done with the use of a thermo hygrometer. It shows the relative humidity and the temperature. The numbers can be plotted on the psychrometric chart. The point on the graph where the two intersect will reveal the actual humidity, also known as the specific humidity, expressed in grains per pound. For example, if the relative humidity was 60% and the temperature was 70 F that would be 65 grains per pound. If the temperature the next day remained the same, but the relative humidity was now 50%. That would be 55 grains per pound. This indicates the air is getting dryer. If the technician comes in the next day, and the actual humidity has risen, then that might indicate not enough dehumidification is taking place. This handy little instrument allows the ability to measure the moisture in the air, and that shows the technician the amount of progress that has been made by the dehumidifiers. It also helps flag problems.
