Crawl Space Drying   Once water has entered a pier and beam house or a mobile home, there is a strong possibility that there is water damage under the dwelling. If there is a lot of water under the structure, that could demand immediate attention. That may or may not be an easy thing to do. Access under the structure can be very limited on occasions. The humidity level is difficult to control in crawl spaces because of the amount of ventilation that exists in many crawl spaces. With specialized air movers, we direct air that we can more easily control from inside the living space right to where we need it under the house with pin point accuracy. The air outside can be cold and wet, and our dehumidifiers will be inside creating warm dry air while the air movers send that warm dry air under the dwelling through large flexible tubing directly to areas that need it. Cold and wet is not considered the best of drying conditions. Evaporation needs to be increased as much as possible, and for that warm dry air is best. When wood subfloors are so wet they are buckling, and the doors will not shut, or when there is a large puddle of water that has been standing for an extended period of time, it can take several days of aggressive drying to restore everything to pre-loss moisture conditions, but it can be done. The floors will flatten back out like they were in most cases, and the doors should shut like they did before the water intrusion. Since water runs down hill, the mess below the home may be much bigger than the one inside the house. Sometimes there is insulation, and sometimes there is none. If insulation is present, and it gets wet, it should be removed and replaced.
