Air Movers

When a home is flooded with water, this water will begin to penetrate into the carpet, walls, cabinets as well as the contents inside. Sometimes items get damaged beyond repair, but most of the time these items can be dried with little or no significant damage.

The job of the water restoration team is to minimize secondary damage. After the standing water is extracted, the remaining contents, walls, and cabinetry that got too wet must be restored to their pre-loss moisture conditions. By using evaporation, dehumidification, and air movement these items can be dried properly.

Air movement is used to remove thin layers of moist air away from surfaces of anything wet. If it is not removed, this thin layer of moist air will inhibit proper drying of these wet materials. Air movers are used to not only remove this thin layer of air, but also replace it with air that is dryer.

Dehumidifiers keep introducing dryer air, and the air movers blow this dry air across the surfaces of wet items.

There are many types of air movers. Some are better for certain things. Some are better for walls, some better at attics, some better at crawl spaces, some better at cabinets, and some are better at different types of flooring.

The basic air mover is used for drying walls and flooring. The number that should be used on a particular job can be determined each day. The amount of water that entered the structure, the type of materials that got wet, and the amount of square feet or linear wall footage would be used to calculate the necessary number of air movers to be used. Each separate area that was affected needs an air mover.

Each day wet materials are tested for moisture content using the protimeter.  As items reach an acceptable moisture level, air movers are moved to another wet location or taken off the job.
